Schuuuul KILL!!!!

Lovely show tonight at Penn State Schuylkill in Pennsylvania tonight. It wasn’t connected to any tour, just a hop up to PA and a hop back. About 5.5 hours of driving (thanks to a random circle the GPS lead us on… we disbelieved it for but a moment and in retaliation it took us on a complete scenic tour of the town) to play for one, and actually not for too many people either, but the people that WERE there were absolutely wonderful.

Charming – that’s the word. They were charming. It’s amazing how different the different college shows have been – how different the different college populations have been. I’ve always had a lot of affection for our Pennsylvania peoples, and these guys were no exception. I just Love coming away from shows thinking “those were just FUN people”.

Yeah. We could totally hang.

Driving home in the rain, winding through wild and wet rural Pennsylvania, climbing down from the hills of Schuylkill Haven, we’re actually in my car for a change and it makes me slightly nervous. My Saturn isn’t as heavy as Heather’s and gets less traction in this kind of sloppy weather. The first fallen autumn leaves make everything treacherous and the darkness, the occasional oncoming car leering out of the murk with its high beams on – generally I’m not a fan of our environment. It was a beautiful drive in. It’s sort of a scary drive out.Heather and I hit up the Old Bowie Town Grille open mic to advertise for our first show there in almost a year. The open mic has changed dramatically since the last time we were there, and the night now focuses on loud electric bands rather than the acoustic guitars that were so ubiquitous in its previous iteration. Some of it was good, some of it was meh – it was all quite loud. WE were referred to as a “nice change of pace… nice to have something soft”. BLAH! Clearly I needed to be turned UP.
